I am interested in how networks of neurons generate dynamics, control actions, and learn from reinforcement. I also seek to apply principles of brain function to develop neurotechnology (e.g., brain-machine interfaces and neuromodulation) that can restore the ability to move, communicate, and learn.
Toward these aims, I develop statistical models of neural population dynamics, methods to stimulate neural populations to modulate their dynamics, and experiments that integrate and test computational models.
Research themes
- Neural population dynamics for action and learning
- Model-guided stimulation to steer circuit dynamics
- Neurotechnology for restoration of movement, communication, and learning
